Pinched Nerve Treatment at a Gig Harbor Chiropractor

          pinched nerve from back

On some days, your back or neck aches, but on other days, you can barely feel anything at all. There’s either complete numbness or a pins and needles feeling. Other body parts may be affected as well.

Is this a joint or soft tissue issue? It’s more than likely have a pinched nerve, which can be treated by a chiropractor.

What Is a Pinched Nerve?

Also called compressed nerves, pinched nerves are often responsible for pain, discomfort, pins and needles feelings, and numbness. Nerves can become pinched in any part of the body, but they don’t always affect that same body part.

For instance, if you have sciatica, you’re going to lose feeling in your thighs and buttocks. This is actually a spinal condition, as the sciatic nerve runs from the spine to the legs.

The Causes

In most cases, when a bone, tendon, or ligament gets pushed out of place—either from an injury or medical condition—pinched nerves are likely. If a ligament or tendon is swollen, that’s enough to cause nerve damage. Bones being moved, including bone spurs or spinal vertebrae, can also pinch a nerve.

Pinched Nerve Symptoms

Symptoms may differ based on where in the body the nerve damage is. Pain is often a symptom, and it may almost move up and down the affected area. It’s typically accompanied by a feeling of weakness, a pin and needles feeling, tingling, and numbness.

Sometimes refraining from physical activity, such as sitting or lying in bed, lessens symptoms but it can also aggravate them. You may also notice symptoms are exacerbated by physical activity.

Pinched Nerve Treatment Through Chiropractic Care

Since most pinched nerve issues related to the spine, chiropractic care is often the best form of pinched nerve treatment. Many patients who thought they needed surgery were surprised and impressed to discover that chiropractic care like spinal decompressions, manipulations, and adjustments alleviated symptoms.

Through these chiropractic techniques, your chiropractor can treat the pressure on the nerve, lessening pain. The chiropractor can also address swollen tendons and ligaments, protruding spinal disc joints, and other bone issues. You’ll gradually experience less numbness, pins and needles, and pain.
