Serving the Key Peninsula area, our chiropractor in Gig Harbor noticed an uptick in patients who say they were injured while performing outdoor activities. If you like to play sports or be active outdoors, learn simple ways that you can protect your spine from injuries and enjoy good health.
Prevention is key to staying healthy outside. If you're going for a hike or playing sports, prepare by stretching and warming up. When your body is warmed up, you're less likely to get hurt.
If you are working outside, make sure to use good ergonomics. For instance, if you're gardening, avoid reaching by using longer tools. Keep your shoulder blades back rather than rounding the shoulders. Take breaks rather than pushing through the pain.
If your shoes aren't right for the activity, you could slip and fall. Bad shoes can also cause spinal problems.
If you do wind up with an injury, we are more than happy to treat it.
If you've injured a muscle while outdoors, we will begin with laser therapy. Laser therapy relieves inflammation and pain, encourages circulation, and helps injured muscle begin to heal. Sessions last only 10 minutes, and it can take as few as one session to show relief.
If you slipped a disc while outside, we'll apply spinal decompression. This treatment flexes and extends the spine, to nourish the spinal discs and create space in your spine. As space is created, your slipped disc can return to its position, ending your painful symptoms.
For musculoskeletal pain, we'll use chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments realign the spine, take pressure off nerves and muscles, and encourage greater mobility and flexibility.
